God,
You see the timid steps that Your children’s frightened hearts make toward You.
For a season, parts of our hearts take up residence deep in the secret places where we hope that our shame can stay asleep forever. Like skittish barn kittens we prefer to run and hide from You, and yet we are drawn out despite ourselves, compelled toward You by our desperate need for peace.
Woo us out of the dark places, Lord. Grow our confidence in Your goodness. Embolden us to allow Your light to expose and to heal the pain and the shame that we are so accustomed to hiding. It is too heavy for us to carry.
Jesus, we trust in You and in the power of your Holy Spirit. Amen.
